Zakat on shares, mutual funds and crypto

Investments you can sell are zakatable. The simple, widely used method is 2.5% of today's market value.

The simple method

Enter today's market value of your holdings — what your broker or fund app shows — and include it in your total. This works for traders and long-term investors alike.

Some scholars allow long-term investors to pay only on the company's own zakatable assets — a more complex calculation. If you follow that view, adjust the figure you use.

Crypto

Crypto held as an investment is treated like a tradable asset: use today's market value in rupees.

Mutual funds ₹3,20,000 + shares ₹80,000₹4,00,000
Zakat at 2.5% (if total wealth ≥ ₹1,22,411)₹10,000
